Resilience in Recovery — Presentation by Jes Montgomery, M.D.

“Resilience in Recovery: Dispelling Anger and Fear to Find Joy.”
By Jes Montgomery, M.D.
Saturday, October 21, 2017: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM CT

Seeking help, believing there is a way to cope (and to manage addiction) and having the support of others are high on the list for addicts who remain in recovery, despite inevitable life stressors or other hardships. As a way to shore up recovery, deeper resilience can be sought and its principles practiced.

James C. “Jes” Montgomery, M.D. began his journey in recovery in 1985, as a concerned family member. He has visited many different “rooms” and worked the 12 Steps along several paths to today. He began working in the field of Sex Addiction with the second “Treating the Sexual Addict” course in Golden Valley in 1988. Becoming certified by the precursor to the American Society on Addiction Medicine in 1987, he began a career in Addiction Medicine, focusing on a polyaddiction model. He completed a psychiatric residency in 1995 to begin the next phase of his career. He worked as the Medical Director at Sante Center for Healing between 1996 and 1998 and again between 2003 and 2011. Since 2011, he has worked as the Psychiatric Director and, now, the Primary Psychiatric Consultant to Pine Grove’s Sex Addiction Program, Gratitude. This year, he started Envision Hope, his technology-based PHP/IOP program with Sober Living in Dallas. He has presented for ASAM, the Federation of Physicians Health Programs, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, AMA, and numerous other organizations on topics related to addiction, psychopharmacology, process addictions, professional ethics and sexual boundary issues and sexual health.
